Cantacuzino Palace belonged to a famous princely family who came in Wallachia from Greece in the 17Th century. The widow of G.G. Cantacuzino, former prime-minister and leader of the Conservative Party, married the greatest Romanian musician, George Enescu, against her family wish and nowadays the Palace became the Music Museum. The present "Museum of Art Collections" is in the former Romanit Palace. Along Stirbei Street we arrive at Cotroceni Palace, a princely residence on Cotroceni Hill. 6. Bucharest of Vlad the Impaler and the Mystery Island of Snagov
Trip availability is subject to weather conditions and we recommend to take it during April-October. (8 hours tour)
The Princely Court of Bucharest was built in the second half of the 14Th century.
As the citadel was closer to the border on the way of the Turkish invasions, Vlad the Impaler enlarged and transformed it. Actually, more than 500 years ago, i.e. on September 20, 1459, Vlad the Impaler-Dracula signed a document mentioning the name of Bucharest for the first time in the town's history.
Under the old arched ceiling or near the river stone walls of the Old Princely Court we'll feel the shadow and sometimes you can hear his steps towards the jail or the cellars.
Ironically not far away, the megalomaniac plans of Ceausescu's Civic Centre came to life. The oldest and the newest Bucharest meet in this place as the history took a short cut from the 14Th century to the 21st century.
In the afternoon we will drive to Snagov to see another place where we might meet Vlad the Impaler - Dracula's ghost. Fortunately we will cross the lake to go to the monastery by boat not by the moving bridge which sank in the middle of 19th century together with 59 prisoners sent at the island jail.
If the wind blows strongly you can hear the frightful sounds of ringing bells, they come from the old church built here by Vlad the Impaler's grand father, Mircea cel Batrin, church which sank long time ago. Once on the island be aware of your steps as every inch of it is full of secrets and mysteries.
You must be very carefully where Dracula's tomb is, as this a secret and only special persons will find it.
